Post An update to my personal situation  [Feb 18, 2010 9:03pm] Reply with quote

To all,

I have been off the radar for quite a while now. There was a reason - I just got done donating my kidney to my son. He is doing well and I have pretty much recovered. I am in Charlottesville, Virginia, working on my masters of law. I will graduate in May but the big news is that I will be deploying after graduation.

Yes, I will be heading for Afghanistan this summer. I am slated to be the Senior Defense Counsel at Bagram Airbase. I am actually a bit more concerned about doing the defense work rather than deploying. I have been a prosecuting attorney for a couple of years but have not done defense. But I have these next few months to prepare - take my advanced criminal law classes and consult with my peers here. My work will be primarily with Soldiers who find themselves in trouble, I will probably not have to deal with the captured prisoners, that is a seperate group.

Anyway, thanks to all of you who have been following my son and I and otherwise keeping in touch. Hope everyone is doing well.

F+CL

Hey David,

Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear you and Zachary are both doing well!

Dave,

I am glad to hear that all went well with the transplant and that you and your son are recovering. What an journey that appears to be continuing.

All the best with the deployment and we look forward to your next correspondence.

Post Deploying to Afghan  [Jun 7, 2010 4:47pm] Reply with quote

Hi everyone.

It is wheels up time. I am to fly June 11th for Afghanistan. Keep me and all of us who've deployed in your thoughts. I'd rather be at Emerald Bay, but that really goes without saying.

F+CL,

Major David Smith
